Oh..., get your mind out of the gutter! :police:
I finally, after a 6 month search, got my Mustang II, 8" rear end today. My wife had to pick up her mom at the airport and gas being what it is, I snagged a ride to the self serve yards. The first yard had nothing but a rather gutted '75. But the Pick A Part had two Mustang II's with 8" rear ends. As I said before I have search for over 6 months now and those cars with the 8" were always already hit. To find two was unbelievable - at least to me.
I opted for a 3.00 over a 3.55. I got the 'drum to drum,' all the u-bolts, rubber mountings and plates, P-brake cable etc. The Turbo coupe 1st gear is very low and the Pinto is about 1,000 pounds lighter than the T-Bird too. So, the 3.00 seems like the right choice. It will help on gas too. Anyway as I'm pulling it some Asian guy starts talking to me. He seems very knowledgeable about the Ford 8" & 9" rear ends.
Come to find out he is the guy who is pulling all the 8" rears. So, I just seemed to beat the guy by about 45 minutes. And sure enough the car with the 3.55. Well, it was gone as I was walking my way out. Anyway, the guy might snag them all, but he was nice and even helped me pull mine and get it on the cart. So, I can't be too upset at the guy.
I fired up the Turbo Coupe and am prepping it for decommission. I'll soon post an "Ode" to that car. Even now I hate to drive a stake through its heart.
