Title: Question about bellhouseing bolt pattern on a 78 Pinto 2.3
Post by: FuzzyFish on May 09, 2008, 11:27:42 AM
I've been trying to do some research into this. But I'm swapping a 2.3 out of a 78 Pinto, and looking at some of the "newer" transmissions.

Mainly I'm trying to find out if ford made any changes to the bellhousing bolt patterns through the years. Ideally I was planning on using a M5R1 from a ranger, but I rather not blow money just to find out ford made some minor change.

they are all the same as far as engine to bellhousing bolt pattern, but the ranger is a hydralic clutch. Im also thinking the trans to bellhousing pattern is different.

The ranger trans is not recomended.

IMHO, just go with a T-5.  They are quite plentiful, and if you can find a five speed 4cyl fox Mustang, they are not as widely sought after as their V8 cousins.  Good luck with your project!
