I finally got the suspension on the 73 finished. Brand new Performance Suspension kit up front with 2" lowering blocks in the rear. Springs in the front are cut 1 3/4 coil (about 2 inches). I drove it down for alignment a few hours ago. Alignment is perfect and it handles real nice, plus it stands just like I was wanting. Now I just need to finish off the minor body stuff and she will be ready for the Baby Blue paint (3B 73 Ford) that I have waiting for application. This car is alot of work, but when it is finished, It will have been worth it.
That is pretty
LOW!
What size of tires are those?
The tires are 185/80r 13's. The wheels are 13 x 6 with 3 inch backset. They just clear the wheel wells and don't hit when turning.
I had mine set that low till a couple of months ago Handled fantastic but I was tearing the bottom of the car up.There were actually store parking lots I could not go into because of speed bumps, not to mention the front tires rubbed holes in my inner fender liners, and finally ripped one out completely when the tire pinched it between the fire wall while backing out of my kids driveway.thats when I decided to undo it,But it sure looked good sittin in the weeds.
I live out in the country and have a mile of dirt road to travel in and out to the pavement. I set the car right at the lowest limit I could go without worrying about it bottoming out. There is about 5 inches under the front cross member. That is the lowest part of the car other than the rims. The rims would sit on the ground with no tires and there would still be about 1/2 inch space from the ground to the cross member. In California, you can't legally have any part of the car lower than the bottom of the rims. I'll just have to take it easy when confronted with high speed bumps....the tire and rim set up doesn't touch anything in the wheel wells even in a sharp turn. I took it out Gilman Road which is probably the curviest up and down hill road near here and went 18 miles to the McCloud River Bridge and back and nothing ever touched. Lots of hairpins and whoopty doo's to give it the test. So far...all is GOOD.
