Does anybody officially know what sort of plastic the timing belt covers on the '80s 2.3s were made of? Thanks!
I got a plastic welder, and I think I have the wrong rod or wrong technique or both.

Yea it's black plastic no I am being funny. It is most likely ABS like the cemment you can buy for pipes at hardware store. Fred  :)
I tried ABS cement and it peeled off. :(
I actually found a new cover at a dealership a couple of years ago for my 88 Ranger 2.3L. I think I paid 80 bucks for it and of course since then I've had to take it off again and that pesky tab that hooks over the bolt just above the water neck broke off! Sorry no info on the plastic type but whatever it is its not very durable!
