I hope someone can answer this :-\. I swapped in a C4 out of an 82 Mustang into my 77 Bobcat. Now the shift detent lever on the case will not go all the way to PARK. It hits on the trans tunnell. Also the vibration damper points more to the drivers side where before it pointed straight back. Have I put the Crossmember in backwards or is something else caterwampused? ??? ??? ???
Come on guys,
No idea's what might be going on with this?
Caterwampused ......now THAT is a good ol country boy term!
Yep, still doesn't help me with my problem. ::)
I am just a good ol' country boy, allbeit a pretty well educated one. I done went and gradiated 8th grade, Hyuk, Hyuk, Hyuk!!!!
Now, back to the problem. Surely some of you master mechanics out there can address this for me.
hmm...are you sure you got a C-4 and not a C-5?
The tail shaft should point straight back. Sounds like you have crossmember issues. The stock 4 speed member might need to be modified (if it'll work at all) to get the tranny pointing the right way. This should fix your shift lever problem too.
It very well could be a C5 came out of an 82 mustang. It looks identicle to a C4 though. I din't have a 4 speed I had a C3. Could I have put the cross member in backwards?
BTW: Thanks for helping out, I was beginning to think nobody cared.. :)
you could have put it in backwards, the mount holes maybe offset a little.
i opened up my crossmember holes a bit, cut off the kickdown lever and use a cable operated B&M ratchet shifter '83 was the first year for the C5 but in '82 they used both C4 and C5 trannys. The C5 bellhousing is longer for the added size of the lock up torque convertor, i have a C5 with a C4 bell and a C4 non lock up convertor
That must be it then, cause I had to get 3 1/2 in. cut out of the drive shaft for it to work. I've been looking at shifters, but I can't find one I like. They all look too much like race car shifters. Wonder if I could adapt a shft cable to the stock shifter?
