I see alot of this 2.5 motor ''Talk'', but where are they at? Ford Rangers and if so what years? Whats the deal here? Are they any good and are there any hop up parts for them? :read: Howard the dumb-dumb..........
They only came in the Ranger for a few years, not sure but maybe late 90's?? Anyone else know for sure? I do know they are stroked 2.3's but the cranks are super heavy. They can however have weight machined off. Racer Walsh and Esslinger make stroker kits w/ light cranks, 2500cc, 2600cc and 2850cc. Also they have the small journals so you need a late model block or use a spacer kit. The heads on the 2.5's were junk, the best flowing stock head is the old oval port with a "D" port intake. If you go with an aftermarket intake I think the "D" port head flows better. Also, a neat trick is to use the stock EFI intake with an adaptor and bolt on a 4 barrel. I'm not an expert on these engines so if I posted something wrong feel free to set me straight! ::)
They ara the replacment for 2.3 made from 98 on up. I don't like them because they took away the option to instal point dist.. Like 71pintoracer say,s 90 - 97 2.3 `D` port with roller rocker's is the way to go but then that's my opinion. Fred. :)
Thanks Fred and Pintoracer. The motor iam building for my 73 Pinto is one madeup from mostly stock OEM parts to get this car back on the road. The car has been sitting since 1989 with no motor in it. I am using a 88 Turbo block and head (D port) With a 84 Ranger D port intake. A 84 Ranger V6 MotorCrap 2 barrel carb, A 90 Ranger roller cam setup, I am using 93 Ranger header that i converted to a 3''dia x 18'' long collector to a 3''dia exhaust with a Flow-Master 40 muffler. The motor is 40 over with Speed Pro pistons and rings, Mild porting on the head and port matched intake and header. The trans is a mildly built C4 with a 2,300 stall converter into a 8" rearend with 411's and a mini spool, B&M shifter. The car is a rolling shell, no heater,AC, no carpet, no inside door panels or any of the other inside panels and not even a radio in it! Alloy dash with full Auto-Meter Sport-Comp gauges and poly bucket seats. I rebuilt all of the suspension and all new wiring! Other then that shes stock! Ha Ha........ Thanks Howard
Hi Howard sound's like it's going to be hot car, but by the way mentioned you may have pulled a/c out. I am looking for crank pulley 2.3, should be 3 belt's 1/2 in. wide instead of 2 1/2 in. and 1on end 3/8 in. let me know thank's Fred. :)
Sorry no can due on the pullie, mine had a 2000 in it and its been gone for years!
