Title: Scored a engine for my pinto to day!
Post by: pintoches on April 30, 2008, 10:32:18 PM
I Scored a 5.0 ,wire harness ,and ecm for my pinto to day! $100

I am going to go drive it next Sunday. and then pull the engine

It is in a 90-92 ford truck.  I think i will have to change the intake and the ecm to a mustang.   maybe the cam to,   what do you all think?   any thing else I should get of the truck? He said I can have any thing off it

BBK makes a nice intake but to high for me.

So just a thought     This 5.0 is out of a truck , I will have to change some things buy more parts and all to make it work in the pinto.

But I don't have to change any thing about it to put it in the truck it even comes with a OD tranny.

So how about a EFI 5.0 76 ford?

Nah..put it in the pinto, way more fun! BTW why do you need to change the cam, intake, PCM ect. to put it in the pinto?
Hey, did anyone see the V8 Pinto on e-bay? Totaly stock exterior, looks like 13" tires and hubcaps! What a sleeper! :fastcar:  :hypno:

The truck intake is taller than a car intake   The cam and ecm are set up for low end in trucks.  I think?

This the intake I want:

I found a intake and ecm of a mustang to day.   Do I need to buy it   or will the truck stuff work?

Please help on this on someone!

The truck intake will be too tall for the hood.

I would suggest checking with a Ford Truck forum with a windsor section.  I'm not sure if the intake is a direct swap or what is required.

As far as price.  You got a great deal.   :hypno:

I paid $300 - engine, $150 - ECU, $100 - harness.  And I thought I got a decent deal.

ETA:
What front springs/shocks are you planning on using to support your 302?

I found out the Ecm will not work because the mustang is a 5.0 H.O.and has a different firing order than 5.0 In less I change the cam in the 5.0

Bummer.

Best bet is to either
1.  go to some place like corral.net and find a cam
or
2.  sell your HO ECM there.

You might also find an ECM that WILL work with your setup.

Hope you didn't pay too much.  If you didn't, you should be able to get your money back, at least.

What year ECM was it pulled from?  I might need a spare.   ;)

Why would two versions of the same engine have different firing orders?  :wow:

Efficiency?  Power?  Harmonics?

I dunno.  Here's what I found though:

Depending on what engine he has and what ECM he got... it is possible.

I have an A9L ECU, but that is for my '87 Mustang GT 302.
