Its called a IDLE STOP SOLENOID     http://www.bwdbrand.com/web_app/catalog/catalog.aspx   This site is what i use at Oreillys to find stuff like this. the site list 4 differnt ones for the 77 and later pintos but you should be able to find one you like. after you get your part# take and go to Oreillys and have them order it for you!

PS  this site is great for these old switches and sensors!     Can some book mark it for the site?

The wire that I am talking about comes out where the heater hose connects to the carburetor on the drivers side of the car...I tried looking up 73 pinto idle stops but they don't make any for my year, only on 74 and up.  Anybody know?  Confused?

That's a wire for a choke heater. Not too sure why your carb would have both, coolant & electrical choke heaters, but I'm pretty sure that's what that is.
