Title: Which Pinto to get?
Post by: 2point3turbo on April 27, 2008, 11:01:46 AM
Well I have a hard choice to make today. I have the option to get either a full glass back, trunk, one with stock sunroof, cruzer, woody, or regular sedan. All are 79 or 80 so I dont get a choice on bdy style. What would you get?

Buy the one that will make you happiest. Or the will give you the least buyer's remorse afterwards.

Are you located near Omaha or Sioux CIty? I may be interested in one of the ones that you didn't buy.

My personal choice would be a trunk model Pinto - like the one I had when I was 16.  I recently located a local '80 Bobcat that I am considering purchasing but I would really like an older Trunk Pinto.

I'd go with the Cruiser first because those panels & portholes so rule! After that, I'd with the glass hatch or wagon because they have more usefull room to haul.

This is from somebody who drove an '80 trunk Pinto for 12 years.

Unless, of course, the trunk model is in the best shape.

I say that you have to go with what you want, and not what others think. When it comes down to it you have to go by your gut instinct.

Thanks guys. They are all real nice shape but I am leaning towards the trunk model. Abit lighter and can hide the n2o. The best part is that I can always go back and buy the other ones as well. He is a good friend of mine and I am in charge of selling them for him so I get first dibs on all them (12 total). I wanted to see which ones others liked the most. I dig the all glass one but if that breaks I dont think I could find another so easy. I am in Idaho so if anyone needs parts off a 79-80 let me know or wants to buy one. He lives about 45 miles from me but well worth the drive.

I've never had a trunk... like the look but don't like the look of the limited room for stuff...

always liked wagons.... lots of room, it's what I always bought in my younger days...

Now I have a 73 Hatch and 78 all glass... I Like! the all glass  ;D

Well I decided on the ess with all glass, power steering, raleye wheels, sunroof, and 78 so the front end is the style I love. Here is a bad pic but this is how it sits untill next weekend.

I just realized the ess was 79-80 but this car has all the trimings like the ess, could there be a 78 ess model? Maybe they just put the 78 front on it. I will have to check the title when I go get it.

 8) I like your choice, nice set of options.

The 80 trunk was nice but I dont like the styling that year. It needs new fenders but the front is perfect with valance and all. I am baffled on which model it is though. It seems to have all the ess options but I dont think it is now cause no tach. It may be the rallye but the column was changed out to a blue one so its not the stock column. Good thing I have a rallye steering wheel I can put on it. It will get the turbo motor but I am keeping the power steering. I will post many more pics next weekend and start a thread on my progress to its restore and boosting. I plan to get the dash out of the Cruzer and put it in so I have the tach and other gauges they came with.

Pretty good choice I don't like the 79-80 models too much. The ess that you got would have been my first choice followed by the trunk model then the cruzer.

I dont think its the ess since they were only made during 79-80 but I am still wondering what it is. I am going to get it tomorrow and will know more. I might change my mind at the last minute and get the 79 trunk model. O the choices a Pinto lover must make. I love the front end of the 78 but I really want the trunk but theres also the power steering and sunroof.... ARGHHH!!! ???

Well I brought home my new trunk model. I couldnt resist. I also had him throw in the wheels as well. Rust free but interior is trashed. I hope to get it running tomorrow for the first time in 4 years.  I had it running for about 10 seconds tonight but battery was dead so I will have to wait til tomorrow. Heres a pic.
