Just curious. Where should I pull power for the pump from so it runs when the car is started?
Also, how do I go about wiring up the inertia switch?
I believe my fuel pump is starting to go again (only been in for a few days too!). The electric pump I have pushes out 5 PSI, will that be too much without a regulator?
5 psi is fine, the pump needs to be as near to the gas tank as possible, they are designed to push not pull. You can use any key-on power source as long as you use a relay. The inertia switch is wired in line in the power wire to the pump. There is a post about electric fuel pump safety, good material there.
I was actually thinking of pulling power for it from the starter side of the starter relay, will that work?

It will only run until the engine starts.

You need power from a switched source so it will only run w/ key on, unless you use a toggle switch. I still prefer mine to be key on powered even with the toggle, so I dont accidently turn it on.
How can I wire the pump with this relay I have so the pump only runs when the car is being started or running? I don't want the pump to be on when I turn the key backwards into accessory mode and the car isn't started!
So I got the relay hooked up and it is all ready to go. Monday I have off from work and I will be installing the pump and wiring it up to the inertia switch and relay. I installed a rocker switch to manually enable power to the pump for the same reasons as 71pintoracer. I will post pictures when it is all finished.
I just thought of one problem I may run into. I am using an inline pump with this conversion, but where does my fuel tank return line go now that this pump does not have a connection for it?
I have a barb on my mechanical pump for it, but what do I do with the line now that I have no where to put it?
Thats a good question ???. Is that a return line or a vent line? I dont know, seems to me I have seen them blocked off on a derby car w/ elec pump, but if it is a vent you cant block it. Anyone else?? :read:
It is the return line. It is the smaller of the two lines that run to the, currently, mechanical pump and back to the fuel sender (it is also connected to the tank with a hose from the steel line).
I suppose I could connect it when I get a fuel pressure regulator with the option...
