Title: Pinto questions
Post by: ADaughen on April 18, 2008, 11:56:40 AM
I have a partially stripped 8.8" rear.  Someone's project part they discarded.

I want to remove the stock rear and put this one in it's place.

I *think* I want to do a 4-link.  I'm not sure though.   :-\

The plan is to have it streetable, but able to run some hard launches at the strip every now and again.

I know there is a lot of geometry in rear ends and before I start ripping the old stuff out, I wondered if there was a "right way" vs my "easy way".

I have the four arms from my last donor. $20. + shipping.

I installed my 7.5" Trac-Loc in my Pinto.

Do you have photos of how it was set up?

I might take you up on that offer for the bars...

I used the leaf springs to do the install, thats why I am selling the arms.

BTW: All 8 bolts slid right out when I unbolted them.

[/quote] Go  with the leafs, plenty of  fast cars hooking with them.  The biggest concern would be getting your pinion angle right when you weld the spring pads on. Traction bars may not be as exotic, but they work :)

It looks like I may do that for now...

This is going to be crazy when it gets done, though.  The four link would finish it up just right.   ;)

Here's a sneak peek:

I took off the pin stripe and door moldings (hence the white stripes).

Hood just got the three stripes ground off it.  It looks like it has been "tweaked" in an accident.  There was about 1/2" deep bondo where it starts to curve down.  It was bad enough it started cracking in spots.  I'm going to get it reshaped properly, hopefully.

I'm just trying to decide 9" or 11" rotors on the front.  :D

Alright... so since I'm taking the spindles off and UCA/LCAs off to get cleaned up what springs and shocks should I be using for a 302 transplant?

I tried looking in the FAQ, but didn't find anything.   :'(

Well, I picked the 11" rotors.

They came in the mail yesterday, along with calipers and brackets.   ;D

I still need to get over to AutoZone to get a ball joint remover and figure out what springs I need to order for the bigger engine.

DHOT!

'06 Mustang V6 wheels do NOT fit 11" Granada rotors.   :(  The hat is too thick / the wheel has a small lip to hold the center cap.

I'm going to cry.

Does anyone know where I can get the hats turned down ~1-1.5mm?  Preferably Dayton-Area.
