Title: Head Gasket--- Need holes cut?
Post by: Scott Hamilton on April 14, 2008, 05:14:44 PM
Got a 2000cc head gasket and most of the cooling holes are 'not cut out' or will be blocked when installed...

Does that make sense? There are cooling holes in the head and the same in the block but the gasket (most gaskets for the 2000cc are this way) has them blocked...

My question- should I cut holes in the gasket for better cooling or is this restricted for a reason?

Hello Scott,
The little holes are to keep the "HOT SPOTS" of the head under control.
They work like a thermostat to prevent the water from running by too fast and not transfering the heat to the coolant.
Which gasket are you using the RED Victor gasket? Or the Blue FelPro Gasket?
Or The factory GREY gasket???

Tony- it's the Gray Motorcraft w/ the red raised areas around the water ports- Purchased from Pegasus...

Thanks... I always wondered why some were totally blocked off on every gasket I have seen, now I know this was intended to be this way..

I guess I won't cut my own holes in the new gasket...

I did, but the cam spray bar was not spraying oil.. The head shop put the middle cam bearing in wrong blocking the oil from flowing to the spray bar..

Chucked an old distributer to spin up the oil pump while the engine was off to find this problem... !!!

I had to disassamble the engine again so they could fix their mistake,

Hey Scott,
Good thing you did the Pre-Start oil pressure...
How long did it take to find the problem???
