Went to the salvage yard with my dad today and we pulled a lot of parts off cars together.
Mustang II clutch cable
Mustang II accelerator cable
Good pair of 2.3L engine mounts
Dual belt alternator pulley
Holley 5200 choke assembly
Holley 5200 throttle plate shaft (mine has stripped holes for the butterflies)
Not sure if the MII clutch cable will work on a late model Pinto, I will have to look at it and see. I plan to start using the dual belt alternator pulley once I get the dual belt water pump pulley. I will keep the 5200 choke assembly as a spare for down the road.
I installed the throttle plate shaft on the carburetor today and I will be installing the motor mounts on Saturday. What's the easiest way to lift the engine away from the mount with a floor jack? (no access to a hoist)
No, the cable will not work without some modifications, as the M II has an adjuster tube on the firewall, but I have seen people put them in their cars when doing a v8 swap. However, that is a good find in a pick and pull. I wish I could find a place around here like that. Heck, I can't even find any Pinto's or M II's in the regular junkyards.......
The best way to lift the motor is by the crank pulley. I use a block of wood on top of the jack to keep the damage at a minimum. I've also jacked the motor under the oil pan, but that can get dangerous if something happens. Dented oil pans don't hold as much oil! Lastly, you can get under the transmission, as close to the front as possible.
bobscat: I was thinking that would be the case. But I now have an MII cable lying around, so if anyone needs it just let me know! I was shocked when I found the MII in one piece my first time seeing it. I pulled everything rare from it as I could the first time around (steering wheel, shifter, shift boot, floor mats). Then I went back yesterday with my dad and someone had cut the front end off with the floor pans but left the fenders, grill and bumper. I'm guessing they were doing a hot-rod project. Anyway, I almost never find any Pintos, and I had never seen a complete MII like that in the salvage yard prior to then.
crazyhorse: Thanks, I'm going to try and install them early today since it sounds easy enough. I may end up swapping out my battery tray while I'm at it.
I went out to the salvage yard again with dad today. They let us go with a few free things too!
Pulled a radiator hose from an 84 bronco (I think) with a 2.3, but the radiator is wider and the hose is to long to fit my Pinto.
I pulled two solenoids for the vapor valve on the carburetor that leads to the charcoal canister.
Electric fuel pump from the 84 bronco I pulled the radiator hose from, and the fuel pump block off plate. I will be converting over to an electric pump setup soon since mine went out last night (third time in a 10 month period).
The car was acting up all day and last night. Last night the fuel pump went out again and then today I had to replace my battery alternator and the voltage regulator again because the battery was dead and the alternator was so far off it couldn't even be tested!
