Title: 1972 Wagon 86 Mustang brake shoes
Post by: Pintony on April 06, 2008, 01:41:09 AM
Hello Group,
Reciently need a brake job on my red wagon,
searched through all my NOS stuff only to find I did not have the items I need to do the rear brakes.
The 1972 wagon uses the 9"X1 3/4 rear shoe Vs. the sedan that uses the 9"X 1 1/2 rear shoe.
So I call all the parts stores and they say "Special order".
Being very resourceful I ask for the Mustang shoe and they look real close to the ones on my wagon except for 1 trialgular hole.
Well I have a dremel tool so I buy the ones for the Mustang and modify tghem to fit my wagon.
Easy Peasy...
The Photo shows the far left shoe that I modified for thye E=brake lever to attach.
The middle shoe is the Wagon shoe and the shoe on the right is the un-modified shoe.
You only need to modify the rear shoe with the longer friction surface.
Hope this info helps some Pinto owners.

At about 11)-clock on the LH shoe is a triangular hole if you look closely you can see a bit of silver where I ued the dremel..
