Title: Radio removal questions
Post by: hellfirejim on April 04, 2008, 07:58:59 AM
I am going to pull the radio out of my 75 w A/C and I was wondering if there any gotchas I should look out for.  I am going to put in a radio delete panel for gauges and the new radio/cd player will be mount remote with a remote unit to run it.

I believe it is a stock radio and no I don't know if it work but if anyone needs one for a restore job let me know.

I'd be interested to know as well, I am definitely ditching the AM for a CD deck...

I've never had a Pinto with the oe radio in, so I'm just guessing. There should be a bracket on the back of the radio that bolts to the bottom of the dash, around the console. You probably want to remove the console & bracket to make it easier to get to.

Also there are 4 screws holding the trim to the dash, with I think 9/16 nuts holding the radio to the trim panel.

Hope that helps you out.

Sorry about not getting back to answer the questions. Since this is a A/C car you have to move the center consol out of the way.  This provides access to the 2 screws at the bottom of the radio panel.  There are two other screws at the top of the panel.  With these screws out you can pull the panel loose and diconect everything.  Pretty clean and easier that i thought it would be.

I decided to make a gauge panel where the radio was, pictures below.  I will eventually be putting a cd/am/fm remote radio unit behind the drivers seat.  Since I have a roll bar there is not any room for a rear seat so this fits fine.  As for putting in another type of radio it appears that there is plenty of room.
