Post by: Pintony on April 03, 2008, 11:01:45 PM
Hello Group,
Trying to get the red wagon cleaned up for the 2008 show season.
I can not get the glass clean.
I have wiped the pass. door glass for 1/2 hr and It just smears...

What works good? Where can I buy it?

Hi Pintony  :tgif:
I've always had good luck with Invisible Glass (I buy it at Advance) and a microfiber cloth.

I use spray Dirtex Cleaner. My wife put me on to it. She loves it for around the house. We get it at Lowes. Best to ask where it is because it is not in the with the glass cleaners.

Invisible Glass is an aerosol - has a bright yellow top on the can.  I've used it for years and it surpasses everything else I've ever tried.

Wad up some newspaper. Thats what the pros use to get a great finish on glass. Just scrub the window with the paper and your home free.

Does anyone know why/how the newspaper works ?

It is because the ink is abrasive.

When I did auto detailing for a dealership in the 1970's, we DID, indeed, use newspaper and it worked great (I have not personally tried coffee filters so can't comment on that).  However, many years later, when microfiber cloths were first being marketed for home use, I watched a demonstration at a shopping mall in Nashville,TN.  The product demonstrator cleaned a piece of glass, polishing it to perfection with a crumpled newspaper.  Then he went over it again with a slightly dampened microfiber cloth.  The ink residue turned the cloth black :amazed:!  Made a believer out of me!  Actually, the cloths work great with nothing more than a little water but I have developed a high appreciation for Invisible Glass - I have yet to EVER get a streak using this combination.

I have used Invisible glass & liked it but prefer a spray bottle instead of an aerosole can. With that I use either Eagle 1 20/20 or a store brand of that. I also found straight rubbing alcohol in a spray  bottle works good. Either way I use a microfiber cloth & it works great. No streaking either.

The reason newspaper streaks is because the ink is vegtable oil base, unlike the paper from the 70's when it was solvent based. ( Washed windows for acouple years ).

I use Sprayway Aerosol Glass Cleaner. It always works pretty good for windows that are really bad but it doesn't provide a show quality streakless shine or anything but it works well when cutting threw some tough grime.

I have a tip. Use a coffee filter to wipe it clean ;) no streaks, no smears.
Please done use a recycled one tho, that may turn your windows black. haha
