Title: Project Cat
Post by: phils toys on April 01, 2008, 12:08:20 PM
Well here are some pictures of my newest car. It may be more than i can handle but time will tell. It has 166000 pus miles on engine  and it was tore down over 10 years ago with a blown head gasket. Floors are rusted through just not sure how bad untill i lift carpet.body wise the drivers fender has a hole and the hatch has a small hole other wise it seems prety good. but realy needs paint.

Kool, it looks like you have a good car to work with.

BTW: In the second photo (the engine one) I can see you still have the plug in the fenderwell (top front part of the photo). That is only the second one I have ever seen. I found one and put it my V8 car that Norm now has.

Wow, was that thing setting in a field or something?  The body doesn't look too bad at all, but man, those floor pans could use some help.  It looks as though you have a pretty nice car to start with, looks pretty complete.

Here is the latest up date
Donor passenger  floor removed from other car. now i have to do minor repair and trimming to get it in Cat.
Finally got the motor to turn over pistons broke free after soaking in oil for about 2 weeks and the still did not budge, and having talked to a few mechanics about braking them free  the common answer was use tranny fluid. I cleaned out the oil  and put enough tranny fluid in to cover the  top of the pistons and  went to get the breaker bar and socket again to Try just for kicks and they moved a bit. I worked them back and forth a few times and cleaned out the fluid and replaced   moved them a few more times and they moved about a half inch  worked them some more   and they would only move the half inch or so  I got impatient and got the 4 foot cheater bar out and  broke the breaker bar (it had been previously repaired)  I got a different breaker bar out and SUCESS   Changed the fluid again and worked the pistons  around several  times with breaker bar then changed to ratchet and finally able to move with my hands. The only problem is how bad are the rings at this point.....   ???
Also will need a cam shaft and followers  severely worn and a lifter (it is broke)

I would assume that the rings are shot due to age and so much force being needed to turn the engine over. I would play it safe and change them out now while everything is accessible instead of later when you'll have to pull the entire thing apart again.

Just an update
This past weekend i was able to purchase  a few necessary tools. I picked up an engine hoist and an engine stand for  less than $60.  I now have the engine out and on the stand and started removing parts. Soon i will be able to tell if the engine is worth  fixing or just replacing.
Pictures to fallow

that really sucks man. sorry to hear that. I keep mine under the carport thing at the condo. so if something falls it falls on that first, and gives me a chance to get it out of there.

Man, that really sucks. It doesn't look all that bad, but it probably looks better in the pics than in person. You just not want to mess with fixing it or is there terminal damage to the windshield posts/ roof?

Matt
Hood , Fenders, windshield, inner fender/engine compartment. See how far it is  down to the ground  that is with no engine in the car  and the tires are not flat  and it stayed that way  after the tree  was completely  off the front end. I don't know if it  blew the  shocks or broke springs  but   it  is not good eather way . The doors  still open  but close hard .
It  will  live on as parts  for others before it  goes away

That really sux.

Atleast you can save parts off it for the next project. What a shame since there don't seem to be many Bobcats left. You planning on getting another or just having the wagon?

Hey Phil,

How are the rear quarters & the battery tray?
Title: Re: Project Cat
Post by: phils toys on November 22, 2008, 01:11:06 AM
Guys  i will try to  check on all the parts requested  but it will be a few days   as the car is in a feild and we got  a little  snow ( only about knee  deep) over the past few  days
Blue door  arm rest  should be good, seat belt   holders ( are they mounted to the back of the seat?) i think are ok  strearing  wheel  has 2 or 3 cracks
Bumpers  steal  and  are good for a driver but  have  rust and pitting emblems   unsure probly worn
My  be ably to help  with  the arm res  any how i have a 78 parts wagon as well but  dont rember how  the driver arm rest is as it  took it off   to get  in side the door.
Rear quarters   i think were ok  driverside   may have  a hole  battery tray   no idea  never  got that far. That is all from  memory ........... but they say it gets worse with age     :lost:

How are the rear quarters & the battery tray?
I  was to lazy to  clean the hood off to lookat battery tray   but i an guessing not  very good as it had a battery in it when i got it and had been sitting for 10 yrs but may  be ok as the  holder and side plate were ok (i put them in  my wagon)  rear  quarters  burried in snow.
