Here is a link to an old Car & Driver article on improving mileage 25%
http://ecomodder.com/blog/2008/03/12/11-on-mods-plus-new-tires-car-and-driver-improves-mpg-by-25/ (http://ecomodder.com/blog/2008/03/12/11-on-mods-plus-new-tires-car-and-driver-improves-mpg-by-25/)
I increased mine by that percentage by just gearing up with larger rear tire diameter, electric fan, synthetic oils and few other tweaks. Yeah baby! if I could get 25% on top of that! Although it does have a case of the uglies that would need curing.
I remember seeing one of our members selling rear spoilers. Maybe I want one now. Anyone have a line on a good looking front spoiler?
Mine is a 73 1600 4-speed. It gets 30-36 mpg now.
My best advice, if you have an automatic, through it out with the kitchen sink. Wifey's 70 2.3 automatic gets terrible mileage. I will be working on that some more this summer. Also sometimes if you bump up a grade on gas and advance the timing more you can get more power and mileage to justify the higher cost of the fuel.
Hey, how much is gas now in each region of the country? Post your local prices. I'm posting from China right now and won't be back in Detroit until next month. I heard I may be in for a shock!
Correction...That should have read "Wifey's 79" 2.3 automatic gets terrible mileage.
My car isn't on the road yet (shortly), I shudder to guess at the mileage with that old' slushbox :S I'm up in Canada and our gas is about $1.15/litre.
3.37 gal in nw pa
3.29 regular But was up to 3.49 for 1 day as the stations were all GOUGING!!!
currently $3.08 gal
Around $3.45 around most of WV
I just called the station in my area that usually has their gas a couple of cents LESS than the other 5 stations in my little burg.
87 grade $3.85
89 grade $4.05
91 grade $4.15... :wow:
phil better make the 30 mile trip to warren we are still at 3.29 at the kwik fills here. plus i still get a 10% discount from the coumpany after i retired. that puts my cost 3.oo a gallon. pintokite
$3.75 for 93 octane.
I have an automatic w/3.55gears and it gets terrible mileage too.

that has to help some. the local grocery store has a fuel links program the more groceries you buy the cheaper the gas will be and they run specials on some items . right now the fuel card is worth $.93off per gallon up to 15 gallons

Wow, what an article. I had no idea the Pinto was the prototyp for C.O.T.
So going back to one of the original questions.... Does anyone know of a front spoiler for our cars??? Mine is a 75.
jim
PS: Actually that is more of a air dam.

Check the dimensions, it might work.
