I have been working with my tranny guy on fitting the 5.0 trans to the 2.3.We have found the swap doable and if you are running low rear gears advantageous as some of the 5.0 trans have the taller 5th.The first issue at hand is the input shaft is .25 in shorter than the 2.3.The fix for this is to remove an 8th of an in from both front and back side of the bellhousing.Next issue is the shaft is also a larger diameter, the trans must be disassembled to fix that. With input shaft in hand run down to your local machine shop and have the shaft turned down to 2.3 diameter.I don't know if this has been tried but if it works it will give you a stronger trans and a taller 5th gear.I'm looking for one now so we can try it.It should make the 4:11s easier to live with on the freeway.

I couldn't get the site to come up but that would be a lot less work.
$7.95 is a heck of a lot cheaper than getting your input shaft machined. One up for the link!
