Title: Quick question about hoods?????
Post by: dga57 on March 09, 2008, 07:57:38 PM
Hey Guys!
This has probably been covered at some point before, but I'm kind of in a hurry for an answer.  Can anyone tell me, please, what year hoods are interchangeable?  Thanks in advance!

IIRC: The early cars (71-73) had the latch on the hood.

I BELEIVE that they changed in 74 to have the latch on the radiator support and the cable into the car (74 to 78). All have the same body lines and CAN be swapped with work; the "F O R D" is different also.

The 79/80 cars have one all their own.

Thanks, Bill and Pintony!!!  That's what I thought but I wanted to verify it before I plunk my money down.  My car has a semi-significant dent in the hood.  I know I can pull it and if it were anywhere else on the body I wouldn't worry about it at all.  Being right out on the nose of the car, though, if it's not absolutely 100% perfect, the repair is going to show; especially once the new orange paint is on.  Swapping it for a mint condition hood eliminates that worry and I can still take my time and work on the other one in case I ever (gulp) need it.  Thanks again for your help!
