I saw on e-bay a rallye cluster, and it says that it came out of an '80, but by looking at it it appears as though it fits the earlier dashes. (the top corners are angled instead of relatively square) Did the Rallye and Cruisin Wagon's of the 79 80 body use the older dash, or what? Or, can you use either in any dash. Doesn't seem that you could, but I have never tried it. Or, is it just miss labeled?
The cluster with tach shows to fit 77-80 Pinto & Bobcat.

BillNall is correct.
The 79/80 cars came with the 'older' dash for the ones that have the factory gauge kits. Those gauges will only fit the older dashes. The dashes for those gauges are SLIGHTLY different than the normal, but only that they have slots for nut-plates for the lower mount holes; I just drilled holes in my dash to install them. You can install the older dash very easily because the 79/80 dash is easy to remove.

I edited my info in the FAQ section to include these details.

Hey Bill, would you happen to have pics??
Of?
Bill
I'm sorry, your dash after you were done.
This is the only one I could find right now. This is my YELLow Pinto after the install.

There are 3 different guae bezels that I remember. Each one must be used with the dash pad that goes with it. Any of the setups should be bolt in to any year Pinto. Plug & play???? I doubt it.
71-76 has two round recessed guages, and angled corners of about 45deg for a octagon look overall.
The 77-78 bezel has rounded corners with two round recessed guages with an oval look.
79-80 has a square bezel, with a single square guage opening.
IMHO the 71-76 cluster should be close enough to interchange with the 77-78. The 79-80 isn't recessed deep enough to interchange with either. Not easily anyway.

Are you talking about the bezels or the entire gauge assembly?
Yes, there are different bezels, but he was asking about swapping the entire assembly. I did not say that it was a "plug+play".

...79-80 has a square bezel, with a single square guage opening...
As mentioned, only if it did not come with the factory tach.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to step on any toes. I was just tossing out random info. :embarassed:
My apologies if I sounded like I was implying anything.
I've never seen a '79-80 guage cluster with a tach, I know they exist, I just haven't seen one :)
I just meant the bezels. Of course the cluster from any series would swap out & be plug & play. IE:you could take a Tach cluster from a 77-78 & put it into a standard 77-78 car.
No toes damaged....
From the ones I have, there are at least two different gauge clusters without the tach; they are not interchangeable unless you move a couple of wires in the clip. The ones WITH the tach are not a plug and play for the 'regular' non-tach harness. As I mentioned in the thread in the link, some wires need to be moved.
The 79/80 WITH the tach look the same as the 77/78.
Hope this helps....
Bill
this is good to know but map sells a really cool pod to add a tack but this would be cool too.
