Man, getting all the parts for my 2.3 turbo swap is rather onesy - twosy. Pick A Part (Sun Valley, CA.) had a half price sale this weekend, but nothing was to be found. Geez..., EVERY 8" Ford rearend is always gone (regardless of the car).
Anyway, another "pick your ..." yard had a Bobcat. The rack was out and the single motor mount bolts were missing too. So, it seemed like a half done opportunity to pull the motor mounts. It all went well as I got the framerail side off. Well..., that was until I tried removing the engine side of the mount. I only had a multi point socket and that rounded the bolt. End of task. There was some consolation in getting the pair of rail mounts for $7.
The customary way is to change out the 2.0 frame rail mount and use the 2.3 even though this requires welding in the 2.3 frame rail piece. While I have welding abilities I was considering another way. It seems to me, one could take the 2.0 mount (on the engine), adapt it to a plate, and that plate could be bolted to the 2.3. Is there some interference reason this wouldn't work? I really like fabricating this kind of stuff and it wouldn't require changing the frame rail side of the mount out. But, if there is a definite reason it can't be done I don't want to waste my time trying.
Thanks, Tom
Hello Wittsend,
If you remove the 2.0 mount the 2,3 mount will bolt in the top 2 holes and that will give you the correct location for the 2.3 engine,
Remember that the 2,0 mounts are spot welded to the frame. Buy a 3/8 DeWalt drill bit and drill the spot welds 1/2 way through the mount but not into the frame.
Use a cold chisel to break the rest of the weld...

The 2.0 with the C-4 is tied with my 1963 Rambler American for the slowest thing I've owned this side of my riding lawn mower. The 2.3T from my T-Coupe is the fastest thing I have ever owned and about the third highest in mileage. So, to put that American motor (2.3T) in an American car (Pinto) will give me the fastest nearly highest mileage car I've ever had.
Pintony, don't loose heart, I've considered putting the 2.0/C-4 in the Rambler! The original Rambler engine (3-1/8" bore X 4-1/4" stroke) throws back to the early 50's and main bearings alone are $150+!
