Title: Clutch is done, what fluid to use in 4spd?
Post by: TIGGER on February 17, 2008, 04:02:24 PM
I got my clutch done.  All that is left is to fill the transmission with fluid and adjust the clutch.  I drained as much fluid out of the transmission as I could when it was out.  What came out didn't look like gear oil.  The owners manual said use manual transmission oil ford p/n blah blah blah.  I have pretty much always used gear oil in all my older cars but this time I wonder.....

Hello Tigger,
If you are using the cast iron Hummer use gear oil.
IF you are using the t4 use transmission fluid

I use 75W-90 in my tranny as well as the rear differential. I would also be interested in knowing EXACTLY what type and weight of oil to use in my tranny and rear end.

So, would that be the Borg Warner T4, or the five speed automatic?
