2.0 in a Courier is a Mazda motor and may have been a replacement engine from the previous 1.8 (a little taller but almost a direct bolt in). I'm not for sure if the Courier ever came with an 2.0. By the time that engine came out, I thought Ford had already switched to the Ranger.

I had a friend in high school with the earlier 1800 Courier, headers, custom intake & igntion and his brother could still woop that truck with 4 of us guys in his bone stock 289 '68 mustang.

As I've said to your post on Turbo Ford, they did install a 2.3 Ford engine in the Couriers with both auto and 4 speed transmissions but finding one to use the doner parts may be tough. You may find yourself hooking up with a welder buddy and doing a lot of thinking on this one but it may be easier then you think.

New for '79, 2.0 (Mazda) engine or optional 2.3 (Pinto type) engine. 2.0 has an aluminum valve cover, 2.3 is a stamped steel. Theres more then that but you can't get it any easier.

Moderators, this is a Pinto sight, if a Mazda-Courier post offends anyone, please make note. It's not Pinto related but I can't stand not helping someone if I know the answer.

I don't have a problem with it. It is "Pinto" related enough in that we're dealing with a Pinto (type) engine. I mean, how many "Pinto" threads (my '74 project included) deal with Pinto bodies, but drive trains that are totally non-Pinto? So I see this as a reverse of that—a non-Pinto body with a Pinto (type) drive train. At *worst* it might get moved to "Off-Topic General" discussion.

Now, if someone comes in here spouting off about cars and topics that had absolutely nothing to do with Pintos, then I'd have an issue with it.

I'll step out on a limb and speak for all the moderators because I'm sure if this post threatened the essence and/or spirit of this board or the community, it would have been gone before (m)any of the membership saw it.

This board's membership is a great group of people because there's a widespread desire to help others and because there's not any of the "Pintos rule and everything else is just a bucket of bolts that should have never seen an assembly line" rhetoric.

??? We're not cussing you out! (Most of this is tongue-in-cheek anyway, I bear no ill will towards V***s.)

Mazda = Okay with Pinto (type) drive train.

V*** = *GASP*

Did your dad get the 'Vette engine out of a totalled car or was it a reman/crate engine?

'Cause personally, I'd rather have a totalled 'Vette lawn ornament than a driveable swear word.

:P

don't ya hate it when you hit send and then think of something you wanted to ask??  back to the topic my 2.0 (mazda) has pretty good top end but a weak low end . after taking off the smog crap it got enough power to hold 60 on I-90 sunset hill which is about 5% grade and 1.5 to 2 miles long. before i had to go down to 3rd. i'm still in 4th but hey it's somewhat of a power gain. right???  i have a free garrett t3 turbo can i run it?? i know about the plumbing  except for the oil issue.. can i put a tee where my oil pressure sending unit is for supply ?? where to i send the return oil?? ???

I'm not sure about the 2.0, but i was looking on ebay, and here is a kit for the 2.3 engine, and from what i hear they are pretty similar, might just take a little more fabrication.  Not sure though, though thought i'd put in the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7909783705&category=33742
