After asking some advice from a lot of you lovely people on this forum, i was able to get a hold of an old friend that i used to talk to a lot and knows A LOT about cars. I took him over to where this pinto is and he was able to show and teach me what to start with and how to fix it. SO i turned the ignition, nothing happens then we basically just jumped it and waited for a few minutes and it almost turned over. then he told me that there might not be gas in the carberator, so i drizzled a little bit in there and than i turned the ignition after that and it started!! he said that the battery isnt getting enough charge from the alternator or he said if it isnt that it might be the voltage regulator. he noticed out of the exhaust there were dark fumes coming out of it (it was dark so we couldn't tell if they were blue or just grey) so he suggested it might be burning to much oil and that i might need a new motor. i dont know what to do, i seriously didnt want to spend a whole lot of money on this Pinto. but it means a lot to me, i love antiques. any suggestions?
That is the trouble with old cars they are EXPENSIVE!!!
delizious,
That Pinto is not an antique it is an heirloom. If I am not mistaken you said you inherited it from your grandfather. You need to put your pin in the map...also if you are serious about that car then IM me with your number and I will speak to you about the car and try to help you with it in a less expensive manner if possible.

ahh you got it confused! its not my grandfathers car its one of my friends cars and she doesn't want it anymore. her mom apparently bought it at some car show for like a grand or so.
delizious, So where is it at...is it yours??? Is it at your house>???

So are we talking about BLACK SMOKE like a SHIP USES TO HIDE OTHER SHIPS or is it just some grey smoke....So is it KILL ALL THE BUGS SMOKE or just some smoke ....BTW these cars really do not require alot of money to get going again...UNLIKE SOME OTHERS...At most if it's a smoker change the valve seals, and that should be it...If it needs a rebuild start at the top and work down. IE if the pistons and the bores are fine leave them alone....
