+1 on a 2300 with glasspaks sounding awful. They don't rev high enough to sound good like the Jap motors. What you get is a terrible droning sound. A good turbo muffler will soud great. You'll get a deep rumble at WOT, but it will be quiet running around town.
ok thanks guy how about 40 series flowmaster
I run glass packs on my 2.3 and it sounds awsome.how you do it is the secret.I'm running headers into 2.5 in pipe with a 12 in blue streak just ahead of the axle and a 20 in behind the axle and out the back with a 24x 3.5 in big wazzoo tail pipe. Most people don't even recognise it as a 4 cyl.The sound is very deep very throaty and unreal loud.It can be heard for a mile at 6500 to 7000. The trick is to run the muffler in reverse.Blue streak mufflers use what is called gang blades in the center tube. All these are is a bunch of little scoops. With the sound waves running into the scoops it causes the deeper sound waves to be absorbed while the higher more eratic sounds to proliferate.By turning the muffler around the sound waves pass over the blades smoothly allowing the deeper tones to pass through while canceling out the higher more erratic tones.I must admit the car is very loud.I guess I'm getting old cause it has gotten a little too loud for me so I'm going to flowmaster, but to say glass packs don't sound good just ain't true. You just have to know how to set them up.
were do you get blue streak mufflers at
I just ripped a FM off the wagon...drone was too much....and it cost more than the GP or the Turbo muffler...I'm still a little pissed about that purchase.

Well, I am going to have to say I like the sound of my glasspack. I run one on my 87 Mustang with a 2.3. It is a Blue Streak as well. (The shop I got it done at had them in stock.) It is running a stock manifold through the stock downpipe into new 2.25 inch cat, then a 16(maybe 18?) inch muffler. It was whatever size was the next longer after the 12". I have gotten more than one person to think I have more under the hood than I do. I haven't run it much above 4500, and never above 5000 so I can't say what it sounds like at higher RPMs, but I can tell you that at lower revs it sounds a lot like an old Willys Jeep. I just wish I had a 5spd so I could lug it a little more. She sounds so deep at low revs when she's working.

Most exaust shops will carry them.
if i cant find bluestreak can i use a thrush glasspack or other brand
Just use a stock looking TURBO muffler at the back of the Pinto. It will be plenty loud!!!

I'll second that. I've tryed them all and if you just have to have a glass pack , put it in the stock location. Turbo is the way to go.

Hey there, i had a 40 series flow for years before i redid for the V8. Many wonderd if i had a V8 in it when it was idling. Had a mild 2.0 with a fairly good cam and a 4brl holley, header and a 2.5 tube to the back.
Yahh the droning was a bit much on long trips. I took a trip up to Lake Isabella in kern Co central calif. MAAAN was it a Looong drive home 240+miles... especially when your tired and been water skiing all weekend.
ITs all about what you like.
Now i have 2 40 series Flows on my 302 conversion. And im getting Older.... Uh oh. LOL

i had a esslinger 2275 in a 72 wagon. i was after making it as quit as i could with a holley 390 and 3.0 exhaust the muffler shop was willing to let me try 2 or 3 different mufflers ( mom and pop places rock) i ended up with a muffler that was ment for a diesel truck. sound quieter than stock way cool.( very deep though) but the guy did put a 2.5 turbo muffler on there. MAN that was WAY to loud for me. sounded like a vw pos.
my point is know what sound that u want and a good shop will get it there for yah.
