Title: Biggest front tires for my 71??
Post by: 71hotrodpinto on February 14, 2008, 01:39:56 AM
Hello there all, just wanted to find out if anyone has ever fit successfully 225 50 15s in the front??
I currently have some 205 50 15s and i hate them.
They look too rubber bandish and plus they have that ugly rim reinforcment side wall. :wow:
Oh well they were fairly cheap.
Now i want to redo them again and  ive never even drove on them. LOL but i want some fatter taller ( slightly) meats on the front.
However much i really like the front runner look, i dont like the idea of not going around a corner faster than 10 mph.

Been looking at the falken zex912s and they look more normal with a hell of a size chart. looking at possibly 225 50 15s front and 225 60 15s in the rear.

I wish Bfgoodrich wouldnt have killed the size line up on the Radial T/A. Id much rather have the ol T/As all the way round.  Oh well

Thanks for any input

I'd say the 225/50's would come close to hitting the pinch weld inside the fender. I had 205/70-14's on a 'StangII, that's where they rubbed, but only at full lock. Some "massaging" with a BFH fixed that, but having to do it again, I'd stay smaller. 225/60-14's fit with no prob though.

FRT (for the record) I have temporarily installed the 225-60-16's off my Turbo Coupe.  I actually had more trouble in the rear than I did with the front.  There is a spot or two in the front where they rub (internally), but not bad.  On the rear I had to whack the inner wheel well (lower front) and run a spacer under the wheel (about 3/16") and there is still slight rubbing in the corners.

Frankly it has my wagon taking on a Hummer like look, - and I don't like it.  But it's better than the mix/match 13' tires it came with. Ultimately I'll probably go with 14" or 15" 205 or 215 - 60's.  It will depend on what ratio 8" I can find.  Anyway, with some difficulty and slight rubbing I have used larger than you are considering.

Hey thanks guys!
Wouldve responded earlier but i wasnt receiving a note in the email... Hmm time to check the settings.
So i think ill give the Falken 912s a try. They have the 225 50 15s and 225 60 15s in the same tire.
FYI they also have some 14s as well as 16 and 17s... Reasonable also. I saw them online for around 138 shipped for the front and around 143 for the rears. ( still have to get them mounted though ) They seem to look more normal with the sidewall they have on it. The ZE-512 was a good tire i read but looks ugly as stink IMO..
Heres a link to the website. http://www.falkentire.com/#/Home/  Its s flash site and heavy graphics so not good for slow connects.
Heres a direct link to the tires sizes.

On the Pangra we are running 225/50x15 all around on Enki 7" rims.
The rear rims are zero offset and the front are 1/2" negative offset.
No rubbing issues anywhere.
