just curious. Would I be able to use my 2.3T engine with the Stock Pinto 4spd transmission. I know it probably wont hold up that well to the power of the engine but would it work? I do eventually plan on putting in a T5.
it will bolt up. it will hold up to a stock 2.3t under normal driving just fine. it the stock rear end thats id be worried about. but if u dont drop the clutch at 8,000 rpm's you'll be ok
Cool thanks  so I should probably go with an 8" rear end?
When I got my first Pinturbo going it had an easy 275hp motor in it with the stock rear and 4 speed. I didnt build the motor but the guy who did had it dyno'd at 302hp in a different car but who knows right? Anyway, I dropped the clutch so many times at high rpm and never got the rear or tranny to bust. I tried!!! It should be just fine with stock motor.

I think the stock 4 speed and the 6 3/4 rear are plenty strong.
If you start out with parts that are 100,000 miles old and not kept in good working order. I.E the fluids kept up and the seals replaced before they loose all their fluid.
Old parts and abuse to not make good performance items.
Many gearheads often rebuild the engine and do not spend any time or money on the other componets and can not understand why the have so many breakdowns.
From Pintony
Being that the XR4ti had same tranny with a added 5 speed it should hold up. Just do not drag race with it..For normal service it should be fine. The rear end on the other hand....
lol, alright well it should be fine then as long as I don't intentionally try to run it to the ground? anyway so i was reading something early in another post i think saying the the EFI 2.3T is going to have hood clearance problems possibly? oh, and what would be the easiest way to go by when it comes to mounting the engine? Fabricate mounts?

If you are putting it into a PRE 74, you will need to do some fabrication work both for the engine mounts and for the radiator support. I have never converted an early Pinto to a 2.3, but I am sure there are folks here that can give you first hand advice (I can only tell you what I WOULD do).

yep that would be the post :P
alright so looks like im gonna have some Fab. work that needs done.
welp i suppose it will keep things interesting :afro:
