I HAVE A 1972 PINTO SEDAN, WITH A 2000CC ENGINE. THE MOTOR WILL RUN BUT HAS A MISS, AND ALSO HAS SOME OIL IN THE COOLANT NOT A LOT BUT DOES HAVE SOME. I PULLED THE HEAD AND HAD IT CHECKED FOR CRACKS, NONE WERE FOUND. THE HEAD GASKET IS IFFY IN SPOTS, BUT HAVE FOUND NO SURE SIGNS OF BEING BLOWN. ARE THERE ANY WEAK SPOTS ON THESE ENGINES THAT COULD CAUSE THIS OIL PROBLEM OR IS THERE SOME LITTLE SOMETHING THAT IM MISSING THAT HAPPENS ALOT ON THESE MOTORS. NEW TO ME, THANKS FOR ANY HELP.
points and distributors come to mind... as far as the miss goes.
if the head gasket is as you said "iffy" then that could be your issue w/oil in the coolant and when I blew the head gasket on my 1980 2.3L it did miss bad... was also blown bad - no compression on 2 cyls - explains the miss in my case ;D
just my thoughts anyhow...
I suggest you reinstall the head and see what it does then. Remember to get new head bolts, don't want to reuse the old ones.
I also had a 2.0 head-gasket falure in the recent past.
BUT my problem was the block had been decked by some NUMB-SKULL.
My machine shop was able to mill it off with 11 passes.
Have you replaced the gasket?? Head??
Did you have the valves checked for seating???

AS FAR AS I KNOW THE ENGINE IS A VIRGIN, VALVES ALL CHECKED OUT GOOD, ALL PLUGS LOOK TO HAVE BEEN FIRING, HEAD HAD .001 WARP, WHICH IS NOTHING REALLY, VERY MINIMAL RING LEDGE, HAVE A GASKET SET COMING TOMORROW, WHERE CAN I GET NEW HEAD BOLTS. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO, THESE MOTORS ARE SIMPLE TO WORK ON BUT YET COMPLEX COMPARED TO A REGULAR V-8. newtopinto72
