Post by: hellfirejim on February 01, 2008, 10:35:53 PM
My 75 is bone stock and my coil is pretty ratty. Since i plan to replace it anyway do you have a reccomendation for an upgrade while I am at it????

Remembering that this will get a turbo eventually.  Honest , really.......

Not knowing what you plans are for your turbo set up it's hard to say. If you are doing a carb.ed turbo you can use a stock Pinto coil, if EFI you can use a stock one from an EFI set up.

Is it working, just ratty looking? If so just paint it yellow.....

IMHO: Aftermarket "super" coils are waste of money for stock or nearly stock set ups. Some people claim these coils alone give noticeable performace increases, but most of the time it's because the old coil was bad or they replaced other worn parts at the same time. If you want the 'look', then go for it. I have gone pretty far with stock ones and have had no issues.

By supercoil you are refering to Accell or the like or is that just a generic term?  It would help the look of the car as it is not stock .  It will be blow thru carb deal.

i want to go with a blow though too, but its more work and more money and more tuning, and i want to have max drive time so im going efi as soon as the snow goes away, or i find a indoor place to work on my car. i think blow though would look the best in one of these cars as that what would be available in 1980.

ps the link is to a super coil and i have had good luck with them and seem to give the 2.3 a little punch. a quicker rev

Good link, thanks.

The reason I am going blow throguh is that I already had most of the stuff to do it.  And quite honestly I just don't have the resources to do an EFI swap.

IMHO: Unless you are planning some HIGH boost, super all tricked out HIGH HP set-up, use a good stock coil and don't waste your money.

Bill,
You are probably right but the stock coil is so bland and I was looking for something to spruce it up a little.
