on the second day of deadly cold temps...
when school has been canceled for the second day in a row due to extreme cold...
currently (9:15am) it's -21 with wind chills in the -45 to -50...
highs today only expected to reach -4 to -9 below...
My 97 Grand Am (parked outside) will turn over but not start...
However.... the 78 Pinto... parked in the unheated garage...
has only been started once since the beginning of December 07...
turned over a couple times and started on the 3rd try ...
The Mighty Pinto! got me to work ;D
Hey Cookieboy,
COOL! 1-up for the Pinto!!!
YES... When I was in grade school my mom had a Pinto and it was severly COLD her Pinto was the only car that would start and my sister and I were the only kids that were in school that day. :wow:
I told the kid last night the Grand Am wouldn't start but was betting the Pinto would....
I woke him up to tell him I was right before I left ;D
he just smiled...
How did you guys like that front that came through? :surprised: I was doing some night school and the temp went from the 50's to the 20's in about 2 1/2 hours. I can't imagine how it felt up north. BBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Was 71 deg when I got to work and was thinking about turning on the A/C in my van.
When I left work it was 18 deg.
Yesterday it was HOT and sunny
Yesterday it sleated
Yesterday it snowed
Yesterday we had 70 MPH wind
Yesterday we had tornado warnings!!!
What A Day!!!!!
Still better than Cookieboy!!
NO THANK YOU!!!!!!
Move south Brian!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup... it was 9deg when I woke up with about 30mph wind... the car would have started if I were able to get the door open
Cookieboy,I was going to call you and tell you the weather was headed your way. But,it came through so fast that by the time they had me unfrozen and moved off the lawn it had already got to your place.
It was horrible walking out of the garage and turning into lawn art in a matter of seconds, thank god my neighbor had a nipco!!!! LOL and yes I think my buttcheecks are still frozen together!!!! :showback:
CookieBoy,
I hope you are giving that Pinto pleanty of time to warm up. Also, I used to gauge my tuneup prowess when starting cold. If the car did not want to spring to an idle I would just help it for like 15 seconds...then I would expect it to idle itself...this is good tuning.
High_Horse
Hey High Horse.... I have started it 3 times since 9am and let it run to warm up.
we know how to keep em' runnin' up here in the north country ;)
and I am soooooo impressed with this little Pinto... Running Good ;D
All Hail Pinto!!!!!!
My 73 1600 starts first thing every Michigan morning. Just pump the accelerator once & hit the key.
It sees 550 miles a week going to work. Today was really fun in the snow. Lots of sideways action :^)
Just hate seeing salt trucks!
