Title: Front brake rebuild question
Post by: vbmdu on June 21, 2004, 08:42:02 PM
While prepping the calipers for painting, I decided to remove the pistons and sure enough, they are rusted, although not in the area that touches the cylinder. Are replacement pistons still available? How much?

Is it such that a light rubbing with emory cloth will remove the rust? Then you can reassemble the caliper assembly dipping each part in hydrolic fluid.

actually, there's a better answer. Raybestos has a complete rebuilt caliper with everything for $28 I think so I'm going with that. Not much more than piston and seals. Of course, parts have to come in and will take a week.

I agree, don't even fool with rebuilding them.  I paid $15 each for rebuilt calipers (Wagner) 2 years ago.  For me, it just was not worth the time to rebuild them.
