Title: The T5 swap
Post by: wedge446 on January 24, 2008, 09:02:38 PM
I have a 2.3 turbo/T5 I`m going to swap into the pinto sooner or later but I`ve been thinking about doing the trans with in the next week or so..
I fount out the T5 I have is a non world class t5..  I know the world class is stronger...
Anyone know if the NWC would do good in the pinto?

It will work but the impute shaft is different on a V8 trans as compared to a 2.3 trans. You will need to do some modifications.

The motor/trans is from an 84 mustang GT... It had the 2.3.. I`m hoping the trans is a bolt in.

cool.
I think I`m going to use the flywheel with a new clutch from the turbo motor aswell..
Is there any balance issues I need to worry about?

Define "bolt-in".

The flywheel will only bolt on one way, and the engines are internily balanced. You should be fine.

I`ve read the thread several time..Alot of good info in there..
Bolt in to me is not having to fab. up a bunch of mounts and brackets... I`m just tired of doing that.. I just sold my V8 mazda rx7 I built.. That was a pain making everything for it.. before that I built a big block Duster, I had the fab upper control arms & coil over shock setup for that one just to get the headers to fit..

Doing the t5 swap looks simple. I just don`t know much about fords

Just a Question???
Isn't the 84 transmission the S-rod tranny with the 3 bolt shifter???

The 84 Mustang with a 2.3 had 3 manual trannys, one 4spd, two 5spds. One of the 5spds was for the SVO.

That year had the SVO and a Turbo GT, both were 2.3's.

As far as I know they all took the same bell, and if it has the 3 bolt cover it would be the 4spd.

3 bolt shifter?  3 bolt cover? Now I`m really lost....It may sound stupid but whats a 3bolt shifter/cover?
Like I said, I know very little about fords.
The tag on the trans is 13-52-018.. I found a site that decoded it as a 83-84 T-bird/mustang GT w/2.3T  t5 trans.

The SROD I used to have was the 4 speed that had the shifter slightly offset to one side with a "tube" down the side.  The T5 shifter should be more inline with the trans.  The SVO T5 I have will bolt up to either a 2.3 bellhousing or a T5 302 bellhousing.  The SROD I had would only bolt up to a 300 6 cyl or sb 4 speed bellhousing.  I think Pintony is referring to the SROD shifter that had a cover with 3 screws in a triangular arrangement that screwed into the shifter mounting "hole" on the trans, at least that is what mine did.

I beleive Tony is talking about that one too.

I had one with the 3 bolt shifter mount like that, and the bell from it bolted right to my t-5 and its in my car.

Yes, t-5 cases are basicly the same, but just because it will bolt to the bell does not indicate that it will work with the engine; the input shafts might be different.
