Title: S-10 Pinto?
Post by: Pintaro on January 15, 2008, 11:45:55 PM
Has anyone ever heard of putting an S-10 front clip under a pinto?

Why would you ever want to do that????  The 74 and up Pinto/Mustang II front suspenion is the second most copied suspension in the world behind the straight front axle......

And it's a half hatch.

I would surmise that since it is a 71 with the lesser desirable front suspension vs. the 74 up susp. would be the reason they switched.  That and ease of adding the SBC they put in it.

71 being less desirable?
If your making a drag car I rather have  the 71-73 front end than the 74-80
its lighter . Before the craze over the later pinto front end swap the two trick swaps were Opel front ends and early pintos...
I don't see the need for the S10 front end other than making a 4x4 or just alot of work.

if you don't think its tuff enough as the guys running Cleveland motors in these little ponies...

Not to step on toes but it seems like a set of headers would be easier to get for a SBC than doing the front clip swap.

I was only pointing out that the 74-80 / MII front end is more sought after by people doing up old hot rods and pickups etc.

Maybe it was what they had on hand.  Maybe the front end was already pilfered for another project.  I don't know.

And I agree, a SBC wouldn't be my first choice.  Bowtie guys would go into conniptions if we took a Boss 429 or a 427 SOHC and put it in a 55 Chevy.

I guess a better analogy would be a 302 in a Vega or a Citation; or a 351W in a mid 80s Camaro.

Ok,my thing is I dont know how you could merge a frame peice with a uniframe and a tube frame .and make it structurly sound.Thats 3 different worlds all together.

I have been told a bronco II frame is the same wheelbase as your pinto.I have been looking for one myself for the same reason.I have a full size bronco but its 5 inchs longer, however it is the same wheelbase as the 68 mustang fastback I have.So who knows.

yah, but im not looking to use the hole frame was thinking of using the ifs cross member from the bronco frame and welding it under the stock cross member and put the springs into the the stock pinto spring perch. and use the steering box steering rods  from the bronco.
or is the hole thing easier done using the frame.
