Title: frame connectors & traction bars
Post by: 78pinto on June 18, 2004, 12:27:57 PM
i took some pictures while it was on the hoist getting some tailpipes put on. This setup works great, very little body flex and NO wheelhop at all!

What size tubing are you using for the subframe connectors?

Just an observation of your photos:  No wheel hop  because you have essentially locked the rear suspension with this setup.  Your 'traction bars' have a different pivot point than your leaf springs.  This is the same as a ladder bar setup.  You need floater housings on your axle for this to work properly.

This works great, i get full suspension travel and no wheel hop. With the car on the ground sitting normal, you adjust the bars so they move freely. If it aint broke....don't fix it! ;D

ladder bars have no pivot point on the rear axle,  they are locked solid. His design still alows the rear to move up and down using a second pivot point but the axle will have to twist very slightly to allow this. on lauch, it's looks to me like the rear will try to pull itself away from the leafs but maybe the foward motion of the axle balances it all out. Maybe I'll copy it if you don't mind.

copy away....all i know is that it works! I didn't build it, the fellow that owned it before me had someone do it. It was a race car and went 11.5 all day long with that set up with a 1.5 to 1.6 second 60 foot time :o

Where did you get the 2" lowering blocks? All the ones I find for a pinto are 1" max. Thanks, DICK

Are these factory on a Ranger? 4 wheel drive? Did you have to modify them to make them fit? I need a pair.

they are aftermarket, i had to make the hole for the mounting dowel a bit bigger to fit on the spring perches
