Hello folks. I've been interested in Pintos for a long time, but never owned one. I live in Pasadena, MD and I'm hoping to find a 79 or 80 driver with automatic. Found one on eBay and would have had it, but I forgot to refreash my browser and the auction ended before I could bid. Oh well I guess. I've been into cars for the past 40 years or so and have a soft spot in my heart (or head) for "Automotive Street Orphans" I currently own a 64 Corvair convertible. Needless to say, the exploding gas tank issue doesn't scare me. Hell, I drive a Corvair... I figure I'm bullet proof! Anyway, just wanted to say hi and see if I could find a lead on a nice 79 or 80,
Rob
Welcome to the most awesome Pinto webisite ever!!! Nice to have you aboard, and good luck finding a 79 or 80 Pinto. Those are by far my favorite years. I can about gaurentee that if you want something for a Pinto, this is the place to find it. I am pretty new to this site myself, and these guys have been awesome about helping me out already. If you like Pintos, you definately came to the right place. :welcome:
I'll second the greatness vote of this site. Friendliest group I've ever come across! I am fairly new here as well. I LOVE the 79/80 cars, would definitely own one. Correct me if I'm wrong here guys but, you shouldn't need to worry much about the gas tank thing for those years, I believe things were redesigned in '77, and should you come across a wagon, they didn't have the same issue as the sedans anyways.
Good luck in your search, not only are the folks here helpful on repair/parts/performance questions, they are also Pinto bloodhounds, sniffing out every Pinto for sale within a 500 mile radius (sometimes farther) hahahahah
Look forward to pictures when ya got 'em!

Thanks everybody! I appreciate the welcome. Forgot to mention. My sister bought a "NEW" Pinto in 1971. A couple months later it burned to the ground! No.. not the gas tank... a bad alternator ground shorted out the whole electrical system. Ford did make good on it and gave her another car. She traded it on a Corvette a few years later. Thanks Again.
