Wifey's 79 2.3 has some oil leaks.  One of the oil leaks is from the head gasket on the drivers side in the rear.  (I have fixed the valve cover gasket and the oil sending unit)
(Thanks to HIGH_HORSE for pointing that common leak point out)  So early this spring when the weather breaks I figure I can pull the head and fix that oil leak and change the timing belt.   Then I can more easily find any other leaks.

My question...  What brand head gasket is the best to prevent this from happening again?

FelPro ??   Other ??

I'm big on the Felpro head gasket...

I second that. Always used Felpro.. with nothing on it.

I too am a firm believer in Fel-Pro head gaskets. To clean up the mating surfaces I use a brass putty knife, and brass wire brush. The brass is easy on the cast iron. If you had a gasket failure, and any overheating, I'd take the head to have it leveled. That's $50 worth of cheap insurance.

i concur about fel pro,  but i just got a good deal on a built head and it is decked more than i was looking for who sells a thicker high performance head gasket?  if the head is decked the most u can on a 2.3 but i think it may be too much with a turbo

I've heard ROL makes some thicker head gaskets to make up for the loss of material when the head is decked.

Fel Pro or anything that isn't cork. That stuffs is a bitch to get back off.
