Title: Got the Cruising Wagon out today...
Post by: FlyerPinto on January 03, 2008, 06:55:48 PM
I took my Cruising Wagon out today to have a new windshield installed at the local glass shop. In many cases, not a big deal to take your car out in the winter. In Troy, Ohio in the snow, it's a big deal. After cranking up the big snowblower to clean the driveway (uphill no less) I discover the little Pinto won't start. And the hood is frozen shut. Inside the garage. Oh well. I clean a bit more snow and go back to it, and it starts up after a couple of cranks. (2.3L with a 4-speed) After finally getting it up the hill, which was only difficult because she kept stalling due to the cold and not having been run in a couple of months, I parked her out front to let her warm up. After about forty minutes I went outside and down the road we went to the glass shop. I pull inside the bay, leave the keys, catch my ride and off I go to work. The glass shop calls me later and says they can't install the windshield today because they need a new rubber seal for the windshield, which they don't have in stock. So I tell them to order the thing and we'll do it when the seal arrives in approximately three weeks. About $125 for this seal. Anyone have any experience with windshields who might be able to tell me more about this? I don't think I'm being cheated or anything like that, I've done business with these folks before. I just didn't press them for more details about the seal. Also, I don't leave my Pinto out in the snow and salt, so I couldn't and wouldn't risk leaving her with them.

I've dealt with them before, they're good folks. Thanks for the lead though. The glass shop is getting the seal themselves so I won't be involved except for paying for it. (Naturally!)
