Heres something thats bugged me from day one on my wagon. Looks like the column has been dropped before. And when it was put back up, it was no longer where it was supposed to be. I dont see any adjustments anywhere. No brackets that you can loosen and slide around or anything, unless its hidden. Anyone know where the problem is here? See pic.
The brackets that hold the steering column up are insulted, I don't know for sure but I think they are some type of very thick foam. If that is true, the foam could be crushed so much that it moves the column to the right.
If that isn't the problem, it could be the brackets are not tightened down properly.
Either way, I would drop the column housing and secure it again, but straight. Three are two brackets. One close to you and one close to the bottom of the housing (closer to the firewall). Come to think of it, it could be the bottom bracket is missing entirely.
looks to me that someone already tried to straighten it.the pinto column shoots to the left from the factory.
PintoGuy76,
Yes Pinto columns do ease to the left...I explored this myself when I had the dash off last time for the interior job.
PintoGuy is your gauge plastic dirty or clouded? If it is clouded I have a clear one I can send you. Just leave your address on the IM.

Mine also goes to the left. Good to know that's just how they are made.
Drop the column, turn the bracket closest to you around. It's in backwards. My '74 was like that when I started redoing the interior. Condsdering my seat is offset to the right, the wheel being off to the left made for an *AHEM* unusual driving position.
Not to get to far off topic, but clearing up a cloudy gauge cluster plastic can be done using meguires clear plastic cleaner. It worked great for mine.
