Title: Newbie Needs Help With a 2.3 Turbo Swap
Post by: MARCOURT on December 14, 2007, 08:28:02 PM
Ok heres the deal I'm a new pinto owner and Mopar convert.I just got this sweet little 72 wagon with a 2.0 auto.My original intent from the begining was to do the ol V8 swap, but as luck would seem to swing my way(for once) a 2.3 turbo was dropped in my lap.Now I did a lot of reading around on here and it seems the 2.3 swap is the way to go.I'm pretty sure I can handle the majority of this task but I have a bunch of stupid little questions. So what I need to ask of you knowledgable Pinto veterans is if any of you have done this swap in a similar year car with an auto and if you would allow me to contact you and ask all these stupid little questions. This would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you all.

It would be better for you to post your questions here:

I agree but I have alot of questions and I would probably hog up a couple of pages just asking. Is there a manual out there that covers this swap? Like the V8 one I just bought.Ok ...I need to know if the motor is a direct bolt up in a 72,Why does the PCM need to be repinned, where do I find out that info, will my bell housing bolt up to the 2.3 turbo motor(2.0 c4),how did you plumb your fuel tank and fuel lines with the return line, what torque converter stall speed should I use, where did you put the pcm relay, where did you put the fuel pump relay, how were they wired in,did you use the stock radiator and if not which one did you use, whats the best spot for an intercooler, what intercooler did you use...ect ect ect?

Wow!!! That was a grand load of info!!! I really do appreciate it...Thanks so much...I was able to go to my local track yesterday and to my luck there was a guy there with an 85 T-Bird that he had swaped in a 2.3 Turbo,so after being allowed to crawl around his car I was able to see alot of the stuff I wanted to ask about. The poor guy couldnt muster more than a high 18 sec pass. The header he was using I think he said was from Stinger had blown the waste gate tube right out of the collector thus bleeding off all of the exhaust before the turbo. But it was still a blessing to get to see it and ask alot of annoying questions.
