Title: Odd Transmission Problem
Post by: dave1987 on December 14, 2007, 02:42:49 AM
I got back from Seattle about a week ago and got to enjoy driving my Pinto again. Well I noticed an odd shifting problem...

When shifting to second and third (most used gears in my pinto), it doesn't seem like the tranny is quite ready to accept the shift. It seems like the gears arn't matching up exactly like they were before and it rubs past a tooth or two before it slides into place.

The only thing I've done to the car since I got back was replacing the starter the day after because it was intermittently not engaging (which is fixed now).

I don't know if I need to adjust my clutch cable (I replaced it about four months ago), the pilot/release bearing going out or the entire tranny needs to be replaced. It's just bugging me every time I drive because I fear I may be making the problem worse.

Is it colder out now then before? If so, it could be a combination of worn syncros and thicker tranny lube.

I doubt it is anything else if it is only doing it in 2 gears, but check for the correct amount of free play in the cable.

It is colder out now, down to around the 30s. Think it is the tranny lube then?
