Title: Hand Cleaner
Post by: Poison Pinto on June 11, 2004, 01:45:13 AM
I figure that if there's a Pinto product out there that is top of the line, someone would post about it here so we'd all be aware and think about buying it. That said, I think it only fair that if there's a general item that benefits anyone who works on cars, the same is true.

I'm telling you this because my intent is not to advertise a product here, only inform you about it so you are aware it's out there. I don't work for the company, don't have any vested interests in the company, and the company doesn't know me from Adam.

I hate wearing gloves when I work on cars because they're either too bulky and get in the way or too flimsy and tear apart. Over the years, I've used all sorts of things to get car oil and grease off my hands. I've used shampoo, dish detergent (both work pretty well, actually), Lava, Fast Orange, GoJo, GoJo Gold, and a few other products.

However, I have come across a hand cleaner that is far and away better than any of the ones I have previously used. It's simply called "Joe's Hand Cleaner." It's manufactured by Kleen Products, PO Box 75223, Oklahoma City, OK 73147. Their phone number is (405) 495-1168 and they have a fax number as well (405) 495-1175. Their package doesn't have a web address, but they may have one you can visit...I haven't checked to see. I'm putting out their info because I don't know if this is a regional product or if it's available nation-wide. I buy it at an oil field supply store, but it's probably available through other industrial suppliers. If you can't find it and want to try it, there's contact information for you.

Anyway, I use Stock No. 105, which comes in a red-labeled squeeze bottle that costs $3.20 for 15 oz. It's maybe a bit more expensive than the citrus-based cleaners, but it works better, isn't gritty or abrasive, doesn't require as much product to clean off the grease, and doesn't leave you smelling like you've been working in an orange grove all day (I think it actually smells kind of like almonds, to tell the truth). It contains lanolin, so it helps take care of your skin, too.

A clerk at the supply store where I buy it says they also make a blue-labeled product that he likes even better. I've never used the blue-label stuff, so I can't speak to it. All I know is that the red-label cleaner I use works better than anything else I've ever tried.

"Joe's Hand Cleaner"  I like the sound of that!
That's good information to know.  I'll look around for it.

I just use gojo. Costs a dollar and works perfectly. Or acetone for nasty stuff you get on your hands like fiberflass resin.
