hi, new to the site, this is my first post. googled and found this site so we can do a 5 lug swap.
We're wanting to upgrade to 5 lugs on our 79 Pinto. Okay, i know about the rjays swap:
http://rjays.com/Brakes/MII-Brakes-01.htm
Now, we have a 300 car junkyard, so what i'm wanting to do is get these parts off some of the stuff we have. we have some granadas, mavericks, celebritys, 6000's, calais, etc. So, can someone tell me - or leave a link - what model GM cars have the metric calipers that we can use? Also, what year Maverick/Granada's should I get the rotors from? We don't have any 4X4 Blazers, so we'll have to buy the brake lines. Is it the big Blazer or the S-10 Blazer?
We were told that there is also a 5 lug upgrade using Ford Ranger brake components, yet I couldn't find any information on here about that. anyone ever heard of this?
Finally, what 5 lug rearends (granada, maverick, etc) are used to upgrade to the 5 lug? Is there any narrowing or modification needed for the rearend?

EDIT: I had two posts in that thread, one I was not clear (has been changed), but the other had a link to the FULL details where I stated what Blazer and more:

Sounds like you are looking for the 5 lug conversion, not necessarily the BIG brake rotors.
Here is a link to an EbaY AUCTION for the 9" 5-lug rotors stock replacement NO modifications necessary.

question: were all of the mustang II's 5 lug?

No Mustang II's were 5 lug, they were all the same 4 lug as Pintos and Fox bodies (less the SVO).

those links were helpful, but still didn't clear everything up, maybe I'm not reading closely enough. As for what 80's GM cars have the correct metric calipers, one poster mentioned that he used 83 Monte Carlo calipers; I know we have an 84/85 Buick Regal, so I'm sure it probably has the same calipers since the Regal/Monte Carlo/Cutlass were all basically the same car in the 80's.
So the Maverick and Granada rotor will work right on the Pinto spindle, correct? Will I still use the Mav/Gran races and bearings, or are the bearings different to accomodate the Pinto spindle?
So, from what I read, a 68 Mustang 8" rearend is a good choice to use for a 5 lug rearend? We have quite a few 66/67 Fairlanes, I'd bet we could use one of those also since we don't have any Mustangs.
Y would anyone put a GM part on a Ford??
If you use the rotors in my post. you do not need anything else!!

Those SHOULD be the ones. Maybe you can contact them for a part # or take one of the brackets to the yard...

Yes, IF Mavericks have the same rotor as a Granada, + yes; all you need to do is remove the shield and they go right on.

Only IF you want one that wide.

For a SIMPLE, LIGHTWEIGHT, + DEPENDABLE caliper to swap.
Don't get me wrong, I would rather have Ford ones, but.... (see above).

Now U sould like the Street Rod guys.
Y don't U go put a bowtie engine in your Pinto!!!! :P
For your guys' information..........yes the 74-up Maverick disc brake system (rotors, spindles, calipers, etc) is the exact same thing as the Granada's. I have quite a few 66/67 Fairlanes and the Granada/Maverick swap is a common braking upgrade that we do on these cars and also Mustangs.
Here is our Fairlane site:

Thank you guys so much for the valuable info. I think we would be just fine by simply replacing the rotors with the Mustang II 5 lug rotors, we're not going to a larger engine or anything. We're gonna look around and see if we can find a junk Mustang II somewhere and get the rotors and rearend. Is the Mustang II rearend a direct bolt-in?

Yes the MII is a direct bolt-in but they are 4 lug.
Just buy the rotors from the link I posted.
By the time you find Junk Yard rotors and drive them to have them turned. It will cost the same as NEW.
Then swap the rear to a 72 Maverick V8 5 lug rear.

As mentioned, Mustang II's are not 5 lug, and all the brake parts are IDENTICAL to the '74 and later Pintos'.
BTW: Not all Mustang II's have the 8" rears.

SD: I almost get the feeling that you are not reading some of my replies, at least the first time I post them.
Bill
The 72 Maverick rear is actuall 3/8 of 1" narrower.
Everyone here says you have to move the pearch.
I just spread the leafs out a bit and it bolts right in.
The brake lines are
harder that bolting in the housing
From Pintony
I did not say the perches need to be moved.
Yes, you could MAKE it fit without modifing or moving the perches, but leaf springs are prone to binding and breaking with side loads. It might also make changes to how the car handles; I am not saying you should not do it, it's just something to think about.
