Title: Thanksgiving road trip...Michigan to Tennessee & back...1600 did great!
Post by: Starliner on November 25, 2007, 01:38:36 PM
Wednesday me & wifey took my 73 Pinto1600 driver on vacation from Michigan to south Tennessee.

The weather was terrible Wednesday.  We left late and it was 41 degrees and raining.  We got into mid-Ohio and we caught up to the cold front.  It went from 43 degrees to 65 degrees in an 1/8 mile.  The windows instantly fogged.  I thought I blew the heater core until I figured out the outside of the car was fogged.  Everyone else was on the brakes for the same reason.  I never seen anything like that before!   So now it's warmer, but still raining.  It then took 2 hours to go 12 miles in Cincinnati due to accidents!  I never got out of 1st & 2nd gear.  Things didn't clear up until mid Kentucky.   The ole 1600 pulled the hills OK in 4 if I was above 3000 RPMs.  With my oversized tires it creates a 21% overdrive.  So 3000+ RPMs we are moving along pretty fast.

On the CB, every trucker said " I can't believe I was just passed by a Pinto!"

Coming back Saturday the weather was very cool, calm wind, and good traffic.   We cruised at 75 mph.   I was getting 32 - 36 miles per gallon.  It used no oil!   Life is good!

So we had no problems what-so -ver with my 1600 driver.

Sounds like you had a blast!!!
I hope to have a nice trip like that in 2008 in my 73 1600 Pinto.
32mpg sounds good to me!
