Is anyone out there trying to find wiper delay? If so I just found out the wiper delay setup out of an F series truck up to 1991 with the same style switch as the Pinto will work. You will need to make sure the switch is grounded with the wire provided & also the wire for the washer needs relocated for the washer to work. That is a black with white racer.
I bought the delay a couple days ago & once I made those small changes it works great. There are 3 more at the junk yard I went to so if anyone wants one & doesn't want to find a ford truck I can go get it for the cost of the part, shipping & a little (not much) for my time. I'll make sure the pinout is switched & the ground wire is there so it'll be plug & play.
Great thinking, and great use of available parts! One up for you!
Oh, and PM sent.

Got your PM Doug. I got the delays from the trucks today & will switch the pinout, as well as test them tomorrow. I'll let you know total cost with shipping via PM after I get one boxed up for ya. One down & three left. Any other takers?
E-Mailed you.
I always wondered if the truck delays would work... great going!
Need tutorial and pictures if possible on how to do this....
If all else fails and you can't do the pictures and tutorial I'll buy the last 2 you have (if someone hasn't spoke up first)
have you modify one and leave the other original so I know the difference and I'll do the tutorial
Sound good?
That's a good Idea. Before I change the pinout on them I'll find the cam so I can take some pics of it & post the mod to the truck delay.
Just out of curiosity, what year truck did you get them from? From what I know about the swap, the wiper switch is different. The Pinto switch has a longer shaft for the knob than the truck switches. Have you installed the switch yet? Was the shaft at the correct length?
until now I wasn't aware the shafts were of a different length. Tomorrow I'll install it in my car & take a look to see if it affects the operation of the switch
Well, as Tigger mentioned there is a difference in length of the Pinto versus Truck Wiper switch. Tomorrow I'll be able to take pics & post the differences. After I post the pics & whathaveyou, the three of you that wanted a wiper delay i'll contact you through PM, or Email, whichever you sent me.
So, um, since I've never really paid much attention to the switch, can the shaft be removed and switched (no pun intended) with the Pinto shaft?

I tried that a couple years back. At the time, I had a bad Pinto wiper delay switch. I got the truck switch out of the wrecking yard and tried to swap the shaft however I was unsucessful in getting it to work properly. For one, it was hard to get the housing nice and tight again. I ended up taping it together but it did not help. I ended up giving up and getting another switch. I was doing the swap from an intermittent switch, I am not sure if the standard switch shaft is different inside?
I took both a switch i found was bad & my regular wiper switch apart & the shaft themselves are the same exact length. It's in the housing somewhere. I'm gonna take pics tomorrow & post them to show what I found.
