Title: Muffler question
Post by: hellfirejim on November 05, 2007, 07:53:14 PM
This is not your standard what kind of muffler are you using, etc, etc but was triggered by looking under the car wondering just where the hell do you put the muffler????   Don't forget I have frame connectors that stick down about 2".

Since I now have it running and it is loud a muffler would be a good thing.  I welcome all opinons.
thanks

The stock location is on the pass. side next to the gas tank, just in front of the rear bumper.

I have seen a 2 in/out that might even fit there.

Bill,
I saw that too and was wondering if that was my only possibility.  BTW: I am running 2.5" pipe.  : )

Depending on the size of the muffler(s), you can get them under the back seat.

I just got all the pipes and mandrel bends to put a 3" system in my Tan Pinto.

Since I am running 15s on the back and will have a slight nose down atitude I was hoping for enought room to run it in the location unde the pass side rear seat.

Once I get it back down on the ground [up on stands] I will have to measure and see what I come up with.

Jim
I have 3" from the turbo to the bumper with a single chamber flowmaster. Lotta room, i used a header collector (3 bolt) in front of the muffler makes it easy to drop.

Just how quiet is that thing???

What I am going to put on now will only last until the turbo goes on so I don't plan to invest a boat load of money but it does have to be reasonably mellow.

Not bad on the noise.
I bought 2 on eBay for 52.00 Bux, sold one for 35 Bux!
Jan has the other on his Toyota Celica with the 2.3 turbo,T5 just went a 12.70 through the muffler...

I made a few brackets of the frame connector and the rear seatbelt mount plate. On the pipe i used Thermotec wrap, 1 wrap of Thermotec SS hose clamp to the bracket.
I'll take a pic later..
