Title: what do you think
Post by: bodirt on October 29, 2007, 08:50:57 PM
do you think that if someone talked to the fine folks at dennis carpenter ford that they would consider making replacement body panels for pintos. didnt they all use the same type? maybe some floor pans. you know that somewhere there in the ford  archives somebody has a die for that kind of stuff.

My thought is that there are not enough folks who would pay the amount of money it would cost for someone to remake these parts. I have heard a lot of people say they want this or that, and when the time comes after someone spends the up front money to make a nice part, they end up selling very few.

That is just my opinion.

Sadly, I think Dave is right. The movement is "too young" - much like the early 80's when I bought my running 1957 2 door hardtop - in California - for $800. Even at that time, the repro parts for the "Tri-fives" were a bit scarce, but the interest level gained strength, and now they even make reproduction bodies!!

Am I saying the Pinto will ever reach the "reverence" of the might '57? Of course not (or, better, "I wish"), BUT - as more folks recognize and embrace its uniqueness, suppliers WILL come forward with new parts. Unfortunately, stamping presses are very very expensive - so floor pans are not likely going to be available for some time - if ever.

There's still LOTS of small stuff to come first - tail lamps, grilles, door handles, etc., etc.
