I just found a Pinto wagon that the guy said the government used... can't remember if he said Mail or what.. but anyways... it's a wagon with NO side windows.. it was suppose to come from the factory that way..
He has installed a 302... thinking about a tricked out wagon to pull my drag pinto.. of course I'll have to make a custom little trailer and beef up the rear suspension.. but would be neat to pull up at the track with a Pinto pulling a Pinto ;D
Anyone know anything?
Thanks
8)well i can tell you that when i worked for the city of tucson, we had a vega wagon(yes i know, doesnt hold a candle to the pinto ;D ;D) in our motor pool, and i can think of at least one other vega wagon in the city fleet, so it is very possible that his pinto was a government vehicle.
yes they were panel wagons, for contractors and commercial use by delivery companies, i had a picture of one rolling down the assembly line here in St. Thomas but i can't find it, they were the same as a cruising wagon but without the bubble windows. They are rare as most were commercial, and were driven into the ground at a very early age, then scrapped!
Ahhh...to have an actual panel wagon! Then I could run my graphics up the side just like the HotWheels car that inspired my wagon project in the first place.
If I were you, Bob, I'd hang onto that wagon, fix it up, and paint it like your racer and use it as a Primo Pinto Hauler!
As for government use, I wouldn't doubt it a minute. What function it served is anyone's guess.

Yeah, I know all about the freaking rear suspension in the wagons. All I can say is have a sharp hacksaw blade at the ready....
Well, I'm going over there tonight to look at it again and the title. But your right, theres no side windows nor was there ever any.
Is this worth something? Well, doesn't matter cause he already has a 302 in it so it being authintic isn't there...
As far as being a hauler... it would take the perfect custom trailer before it would work... axles have to be in the right spot and the trailer itself has to be very light.. just enough to hold the drag car... we will see...
May turn it into a footbrake class car lol
Still think www.fordpinto.com clear across the side would look pretty cool ;D
Of course, if you decide you don't want it and it's in fairly good shape and the cost is reasonable, let me know.
Like I said before, I'm only a few hours drive down I-70 and can pick it up easily.
I should know something tonight... I'm still working on the other deal for you ;)
The other deal may still be on the table??? ;D
Cool. E-mail me at:
lostnspc@eaglecom.net
or
poison_pinto@fordpinto.com
and I'll do what I can to make the deal work. And I'm seriously interested in the panel wagon, too. That is, of course, if you decide you don't want it.
The Pinto Panel Delivery (that's what Ford referred to them as) were supposedly built from '78-'80 and are hard to come by. I have a '79. Photo attached.
i love the looks of them! 79panel, your looks to be in great shape!
Has it got a special VIN? I wonder how it differs from a regular wagon.
Also remember the 79 or 80 hatchback was used by the postal service.
