There's a very small amount of surface rust on the inside of it. Is there any way I can clean it out? I can't think of any brush that would fit in there besides a pipe cleaner, but I don't think a pipe cleaner has stiff enough bristles to remove surface rust. Is there a type of solvent or cleaner I could use?

How about dunking it in some "METAL- PREP" acid. you should be able to find this where you buy automotive paint and supply.
A bath in straight VINEGAR "MAY" do the trick too???????
