Title: Spark plug reccomendations
Post by: hellfirejim on October 08, 2007, 09:34:27 AM
I know that asking about spark plugs is like asking what color is best but I am going to buy some shortly and would like a few recommendations.

This is a 1975 Runabout 2.3 [N/A] and 4 speed.  Blueprinted but stock.... mostly.
Thanks
jim

I have always said autolite in a ford  I cant remember if its a 25 or 45 part # you could go one hotter to a 26or46, up to a platinum AP25 AP45   above that is the double platinum APP25 APP45. above that is the xtreme performance XP25 XP45 (these might have to be ordered)

most of the new high RPM 4 cyl are using   NGK

NGK dose not offer a litting for the 75 but the 76 use a
v power #2635     90 v-cut electrode
g power #2763      single platinum
IX           #7149       Iridium series

all of the NGKs are better than stock  they do not offer a stock plug for a pinto

What brand where you thinking i can get parts # for them.

I'm an NGK guy myself.  My Merkur blows oil in the second cylinder and NGK plugs are the only ones that will fire.

I wasn't set on any brand just yet so I am open to any suggestions.  There are Autolites in it right now [don't remember the number :read:] but i wanted to put fresh plugs before i fired it up.

This is going to be driven as much as possible when I get it running so i need something reliable not max performance.  When I get to putting on the new carb and manifold after it is runnning I may need to change to new plugs or when the turbo goes on.

So this is a round about answer that I welcome all thoughts.

I know alot of people talk BS about bosch platnums but that is what i run in my 76 and they are great. Wouldnt hesitate to put new ones in it again when its time. However I do have to say the bosch platnums do seem to zoop in any V6 and V8 i've ever run them in, seem great in all the 4 cyls ive used them in tho. Doesnt make sense but thats how it seems to be.

After reading about all of this I have pretty much decided to go with Autolite from my NAPA store.  I think their number is 106...

Thanks for the input.

Not neccessarily, that may have been a NAPA number.  I bought some last night but left the receipt at home.  Maybe just maybe I can start it this weekend.
